There is Only One Desert Boot
One of my favourite ads of all time.
Yes, it inspired me to buy a pair of Clarke's Desert Boots. I was maybe twenty at the time, and highly susceptible to such imagery, to such suggestion. I've owned numerous pairs since, but this ad was in a large way responsible for getting me started.
I've been unable to determine who shot it, and if it wasn't Helmut Newton, then you can be damn sure he inspired it. Those deep blacks. Oh, and a glamorous woman wearing stockings. That too.
